2009 Buckeye Shepherd's Symposium

An educational program for both sheep and goat producers, focusing on small ruminant health. The symposium is scheduled for Saturday, December 12 at the Ohio Department of Agriculture in Reynoldsburg.

2009 BUCKEYE SHEPHERD’S SYMPOSIUM

This year’s Buckeye Shepherd’s Symposium is being held in conjunction with the Small Ruminant Health Symposium. This program has been developed for both sheep and goat farmers.

The featured speaker at the symposium is Dr. Richard Ehrhardt a small ruminant specialist from Michigan State University.  Program sessions include:

  • Why Didn't It Live?  Lamb and Kid Mortality Necropsy Demonstrations

  • Preventive Management Strategies During Pregnancy to Improve Maternal Health and Productivity

  • Update on the USDA Scrapie Eradication Program

  • ODA Facility Tour

  • Managing the Dam and Offspring from Birth to Weaning to Prevent Disease and Optimize Performance

  • Bio-security on the Farm

  • Developing a Flock and /or Herd Health Plan

  • Chronic Diseases in Small Ruminants: Real or Imagined Problem?

  • American Goat Federation: A National Goat Association
